THE HOUR OF DECISION!

Humanity is facing two problems of such magnitude, two problems so redolent, so fraught with danger that the question must be asked, can the human race respond to any problem, to any danger with a prescription that is functional, one that contains an urgency requisite to the clear and present risk that we confront, or, will our efforts to survive and progress always be doomed to failure, will they always be too little, too late?

Our race is facing the twin threats of the runaway vehicle that is global warming, and simultaneously, we are sinking deeper and deeper into the quagmire of the war in Iraq; will we continue to be petrified by the fear inherent in these situations and remain immobile like a deer trapped in the headlights of an approaching eight wheeler, or, will we be galvanized to quickly adopt the measures that will cause us to overcome, can we develop the accurate, realistic descriptions of these problems that are the necessary prerequisite to developing workable solutions?

It has always been clear to me that as difficult and potentially divisive that course of action might be, as risky a course of action as it might be; we have no alternative but to impeach the President of the United States of America to save this nation’s soul.

Furthermore, it is clear that this is a nettle that the citizens of this nation must grasp; that the Congress, even the Congress as it is currently constituted does not the will and courage to do what is urgently mandated and required to preserve this nation.

Facts and circumstances have conspired to create a situation that requires that citizens take ultimate and final responsibility for the future of this nation.

Commentators from the Fifth Estate, the woefully corrupted Fifth Estate, are minutely examining the recent State of the Union address of the President to see if belatedly he has become aware of the clear and present danger of global warming.

He has not, what is more, he cannot be aware of this ominous threat because he is a puppet on the string, he is owned by powerful interest groups whose profitability would be destroyed by the measures that we need to adopt - if we are to have the desired impact and begin to reverse the effect of burning fossil fuels on the atmosphere of our only viable home, on the atmosphere of Mother Earth.

Implicit in the fact that Exxon has garnered record profits, Sixty Nine Billion Dollars, while the rest of us have been groaning, stumbling and almost had our personal economies foundering under the massive burden of the highest level of gasoline prices ever experienced; is the rapidly diverging and irreconcilable aims and objectives of the filthy rich - and the rest of us, in this nation.

They have been hoist on their own petard; they have created a situation in which the politician with the largest war chest will win the election with the consequence that they own the government to a degree that has destroyed the thin veneer of democracy that created a vestige and enabling trace of national consolidation; that created a fragile balance between order and chaos; and, unmasked the grim and predatory visage of exploitation and corruption that the rest of us confront daily.

They have gone too far, and are too rapidly taking us back to that period in history when they had absolute power; soon the adage power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely will be the inescapable, unendurable reality of the lives of the rest of us - if we are not galvanized in the hour when democracy is confronting its greatest peril, to snatch victory for the people out of the jaws of defeat, and create, once and for all, the functioning democracy envisioned by the Founding Fathers of this nation.

What must become clear to a bare majority of Americans, whatever their politics, is that victory in Iraq should not, must not increase the popularity of this rogue President; if the American public were again to be content with this palliative they would be foregoing the values that protect their fundamental, inalienable rights and freedoms, they would be, as they have always been doing, unconsciously perpetuating the status quo that has been dominant for all of human history, the notion that might is right.

Suppose the surge, the escalation in troop strength in Iraq is successful in defeating the insurgency, should that belatedly victory blind us to the naked act of aggression that the Bush Administration has inflicted on the people of Iraq?

In her defense of the Soledad Brothers, Angela Davis said, “If they come for them in the morning, they will be coming for us that night.”

For all the years of this pretend democracy, for all the years since the framing of the American Constitution, its inalienable rights and privileges have, in precept, been accessible only to a very few, the elite at the top end of the economic and social hierarchy.

The rest of us have been on the outside looking in, to paraphrase Dr. Martin Luther King, the vast majority of us live on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity, we are languished in the corners of American society and find ourselves exiles in our own land.

Democracy was for men, but not for women; it was for White Anglo Saxons, but not for Native Americans, Negroes, Jews, the dirty Irish, or Hispanics; it was for Protestants but not for Catholics and certainly not for Pentecostals; for Republicans but not for Democrats; for Conservatives but not for Liberals; it was for those who had accumulated Capital, but not for Labor.

While always, perennially five per cent of the population owned and controlled ninety per cent of the wealth of this nation; this was the reality that was obdurate and unchanging.

It is time for us to see that since time immemorial human beings have divided to rule; this has been the fundamental mechanism that have caused a small minority to accumulate most of the economic, social, and political power.

If we allow Bush Administration to contrive justifications to attack the Iraqi people; if we allow them to create prisons and conditions like those that obtained at Abu Ghraib; if we allow them to circumvent American law by maintaining prison installations in Europe; if we allow them to eschew every civilized concept and humane consideration in respect of anyone to whom they apply the label “terrorist;” one day in the not too distant future, they will be doing the same thing to us; if they come for the Iraqi people in the morning, they will be coming for us that night.

The threat in the post 911 socioeconomic milieu; was that it would give to those whose veneer of civilization is very thin; those who need little excuse to embrace Absolutism, to use the 911 attack as an excuse to accumulate and abuse power; and, that dire prophecy is now coming to pass.

I have used every means at my disposal to cause humanity to avoid the catastrophe that looms closer and closer; a destiny of destruction that will become irreversible when the Bush Administration attacks Iran.

I say again what I said several years ago; if the Bush Administration attacks Iran, Allied Forces will be defeated, they will find themselves in such an untenable position that Israel will have no choice to come to their aid, an action that will embroil other Arab States in this conflict on one side or another and eventually result in the destruction of the State of Israel.

It would be clear to anyone who is not neurotic and repressed that there is a distinct and easily discernible pattern to the actions of President Bush; he abused his power to pressure scientists to conceal the urgency of the threat of global warming, in the same way that he ignore the advice of Chief of Staff General E Shinseki when preparing the act of aggression against Iraq.

It was the same strategy he applied in his election campaigns, against Senator John McCain, and latterly when he faced Senator John Kerry with the infamous Swift Boat Ads.

He totally disregarded the facts, and used every item of obfuscation and propaganda to achieve his objective and totally disregarded the impact facts have on function.

He saw what he wanted, and contrived and tailored the ‘facts’ that would permit him to attain that objective.

But all of these objectives were political objectives; these aims could be realized by distorting the perception of the American body politic, a group whose intellects were already susceptible as a totality because of the palpable failure of the American education system.

Changing the reality in an ongoing conflict is another kettle of fish entirely; defeating the insurgency, and other social problems depends on describing the problem accurately; creating an aggregation of facts that are adequate to the existing reality, something the Bush Administration has been totally incapable of doing; and I have, I hoped, exposed the inadequacies in their methodology that accounts for this pervasive failure.

What maintains the balance between order and chaos in human existence; human beings have intense wants and needs and it is much easier to use every means at their disposal to achieve these ends.

What maintains a fragile balance between the chaos that ensues as personalities and groups pursue objectives, and leavens these activities with consideration of the facts is morality, the attempt to do the right thing; and, for a small minority, the appreciation that the facts create function.

President Bush, with his total disregard of the facts, of inconvenient truths, like the impact on the weather of global warming; and, that troop levels increase the success of insurgency; has precipitated a descent into chaos which has caused him to lose his staunchest allies and creates a situation that makes it clear that morality is the bridge between fact and function.

The interests of Exxon, and the Walt Disney Company, and Time Warner, are too inextricably bound to the fortunes of the President for the impact of morality on the balance between order and chaos to be perceived by those powerful organizations; but all other individuals and aggregations of individuals have a golden once in a lifetime opportunity to understand the dynamics of culture, its impact on social systems, and, based on this appreciation of the forces operating, they could make the right choice in this hour of decision.

A choice which is certain to determine the future, perhaps even the survival of human civilizations.

It is obvious to me that President Bush has used up all his chances; his appeal to give escalation a chance should fall on deaf ears, and, regretfully but with implacable patriotic resolve we should proceed with requisite speed to impeach this rogue President.
